DMPD: One Injured, Two Arrested in Wednesday Night Shootings

(Des Moines, IA) -- Des Moines Police say one person is hurt and two people are in custody in connection to a pair of shootings overnight Wednesday.

Police say officers responded to two shootings Wednesday night. The first was reported by an officer on patrol who reported hearing multiple gunshots near Evelyn Davis Park. When officers responded, they found a 17 year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital in serious condition. Police say near the scene, officers confiscated a stolen handgun and took a juvenile into custody. A short time later, a second shooting was reported near Martin Luther King, Jr. Park. No one was hurt in that shooting, though a house was hit by gunfire. Officers took a juvenile suspect into custody near the scene and confiscated two handguns.

In all, two juveniles were arrested, two people managed to escape, and police confiscated three handguns. Police believe the two shootings may be related.
