(Des Moines, IA) -- The Animal Rescue League of Iowa's caring for a dog left severely injured & bleeding because of an imbedded collar. The A-R-L says the collar was more than 1.5 inches deep around the dog's neck. The A-R-L says whoever put the collar on, never adjusted it as the dog grew. Des Moines Police are investigating. ARL staff cleaned and dressed the wound, which smelled strongly of infection, and gave the dog pain medications and antibiotics to help his body begin healing. The ARL says the would could take weeks to heal.
