Dog Found In Des Moines With Collar Embedded In Neck

(Des Moines, IA) -- The Animal Rescue League of Iowa's caring for a dog left severely injured & bleeding because of an imbedded collar. The A-R-L says the collar was more than 1.5 inches deep around the dog's neck. The A-R-L says whoever put the collar on, never adjusted it as the dog grew. Des Moines Police are investigating. Tips can be submitted anonymously tip thru Crime Stoppers of Central Iowa. Rewards are available.

ARL staff cleaned and dressed the wound, which smelled strongly of infection, and gave the dog pain medications and antibiotics to help his body begin healing. The ARL says the would could take weeks to heal.
