During the month of August, eighteen people were killed in traffic crashes on Nebraska roadways, according to data from the State Department of Transportation.
NDOT says four of the sixteen vehicle occupants killed were not using seatbelts, five were using a seatbelt, and seven had seatbelt usage marked on accident reports as unknown.
There were no fatalities on the Nebraska interstate in August, twelve on other highways, and six on local roads.
There were 22 fatalities in August of 2022.
There are 133 fatalities so far this year on Nebraska roads compared to 159 at this point in 2022.
