(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Federal Railroad Administration announced this morning that it's investing 8.5-million dollars into rail improvements in Iowa. Nearly 6-million dollars will be used to expand the Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railway Smith-Dows rail yard. Upgrades include new tracks and switching equipment to improve traffic flow. It will also reduce reliance on other rail yards in central Cedar Rapids. The money comes from the Federal Infrastructure bill.
