Cedar Rapids Man Charged With Abuse Of Corpse In I-80 Case

(Poweshiek County, IA) -- A Cedar Rapids man has been charged with Abuse of a Corpse, after an encounter Tuesday morning with the Iowa State Patrol on Interstate-80 east of Grinnell.

Police say 23-year-old Jihad Abdul-Malik Gasaway was pulled over by a trooper who spotted Gasaway driving on the shoulder. Troopers then saw the body of a man in the passenger seat of the car, who had been shot to death.

Gasaway is being held in the Poweshiek County Jail

The driver of the vehicle told troopers his car had stalled. Police also say the driver informed officers he had a gun and showed it.
