Cedar Rapids Man Charged With Murder After I-80 Stop Near Grinnell

(Poweshiek County, IA) -- Jihad Gasaway of Cedar Rapids is now charged with murder after the discovery this week of a man's body in a car on I-80 near Grinnell. Iowa State Trooper encountered Gasway in a stalled car Tuesday morning and then saw a man's body covered with clothing in the passenger seat of the car,

Iowa's News Now reports that according to the criminal complaint, state troopers discovered a Silver 2010 Chevrolet Malibu parked on the shoulder of the interstate at 8:10am.

The driver of the vehicle told troopers his car had stalled and he needed a jump start. The driver did tell police he had a gun and showed it.

The Iowa Department of Public Safety says the man found dead has been identified as 26-year-old Kemp Xavier Sherrod Harriel. An autopsy indicates Harriel died of two gunshot wounds to the chest. Harriel's death has been ruled a homicide.

Gasaway was initially charged with Abuse of a Corpse. He's being held in the Poweshiek County Jail.
