(Des Moines, IA) -- Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines has cut the ribbon on the renovated, 1,700 square foot Variety Pediatric Clinic at 1801 Hickman Road.
"Our pediatric service line as well as our OB service line has grown tremendously in the last two years, we've delivered more babies than we ever have, and we're actually on to break that record next month," said Broadlawns President & CEO Dr. Anthony Coleman. He says last year Broadlawns delivered around 800 babies, about 63-percent more than in recent years. He says Broadlawns has also seen a rising number of refugee patients.
Coleman also says the hospital, which is supported by Polk County, tries to serve patients' other needs as well, including providing a car seat to a new mother and giving books to their child patients who visits the doctor's office.
Broadlawns has three pediatricians providing care. The renovation includes more provider rooms and exam rooms.
Variety the Children's Charity has supported the Broadlawns Pediatric Clinic for decades, starting with $850,000 in seed money about 20-years ago. Since then, the non-profit has donated $1.6 million to the pediatric clinic.
Broadlawns Medical Center is a non-profit healthcare organization, supported by Polk County.
