(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A Cedar Rapids man's trial is underway for killing his mother in 2020.
Police responded to 808 18th Avenue SW on July 1, 2020, for a reported assault and discovered 71-year-old Elsie Deason severely injured.
George Deason is accused of beating his mother to death in order to steal about $50 dollars from her.
Police say Deason pointed a gun at officers when they tried to arrest him.
On Wednesday, an emergency room doctor told the court that Deason's mother suffered a critical brain injury from the assault.
He is facing several charges including first degree murder, robbery and assault on a police officer.
