(Des Moines, IA) -- The Iowa Board of Regents approves recommendations from the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Study Group.

After Senate File 560 was signed into law in June, the Iowa Board of Regents was ordered to evaluate DEI programs at the University of Iowa, Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa and submit a report to the governor's office.

The DEI Study Group recommends the state's three public universities to restructure their DEI offices and eliminate positions unnecessary for compliance or accreditation. More than 140 staff members work in the state universities' DEI offices.

Also among the recommendations, race should not be a factor in admissions or hiring processes, political views need to be separated from work, and all students should feel free to use DEI services.
