After a memorable weekend for Iowa sports fans, I had a lot of fun on the air asking listeners to share their favorite Iowa sports memories along with saluting their favorite local pub from which to watch sports.
My favorite sports memory doesn't involve an Iowa team. You know by now that I grew up in St. Louis - and won't be surprised to hear that it occurred during Game 6 of the 2011 World Series. You remember the game: the Cardinals erased a two-run deficit in the bottom of the 9th inning, then did it again in the 10th. In both innings, the Rangers were one strike away from their first World Series championship. The Cardinals went on to win the game in the 11th inning on a walk-off home run by David Freese.
My son and I were visiting my daughter at her home and were watching the game on TV. My daughter and her young children had gone to bed - so during the final innings my son and I were forced to jump around quietly while whispering our cheers!
