(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- November was the first month in two-and-a-half years that no one was shot in Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Police Department reports shots-fired incidents down 30-percent this year. Interim Chief Tom Jonker tells The Cedar Rapids Gazette that he attributes the decrease in gun violence to a new intervention program.
Cedar Rapids Community School District leaders are partnering with the CRPD to try to reduce school violence. Police say criminal charges filed against district students have risen to 34 from 24 last year, and are more serious too.
