(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Cedar Rapids City Planning Commission is discussing rezoning Harrison Elementary School.
The City Zoning Commission met for two hours Thursday to discuss demolishing the school, and building a new one at the same location.
The zoning request proposes redeveloping the school in order to create a special needs educational facility.
The school district says it's more cost-effective rather than a renovation and building expansion.
However, others say rezoning the school will damage Cedar Rapids' historic preservation and will increase traffic.
The City Zoning Commission was unable to decide and will talk about it again in a meeting next month.
