(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The Cedar Rapids Fire Department is giving fire hydrant clearing tips as a snowstorm is passing across the region.
In a Facebook post from the fire department, people are being asked to clear three feet of snow and ice from around fire hydrants to make it easier for crews to respond to fires if necessary.
Snow being pushed off the streets by plows can cause it to build up around the hydrants.
The city of Cedar Rapids is currently under a Snow Emergency until Wednesday.
The city asks all residents to park vehicles on the odd side of the street on odd numbered days and vice-versa.
