(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Crime is reducing in Cedar Rapids.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department's annual crime statistics shows a decrease in several types of crimes.

Compared to the five-year average, property crime was reduced by 5%, robbery went down by 51%, and burglaries decreased by 36%, and shots fired went down by 35%.

Interim Police Chief Tom Jonker says the decrease in crime is attributed to the department's focus on gun crime and proactive policing strategies.
