(Ames, IA) -- State snow plow crews have been trying to recover from last week's double blizzard, that dumped heavy snow on most of the state. Iowa DOT Winter Operations Manager Craig Bargfrede says staffers have been getting some rest, but also looking ahead to the next snow-fall. The forecast calls for light snow and blowing snow Thursday, which is expected to taper off Friday, followed by bitter cold temperatures.
The DOT is sharing photos of their biggest equipment which was needed in southeast Iowa's Keokuk County last week, to churn thru 15-to-18 feet drives on Iowa 22 near Kinross, Iowa. Bargfrede says the state has about 10-such big snow blowers, which are more often use in northern Iowa if it all during the winter.
Bargfrede says staffers worked 12-hour shifts, and some had to catch some rest in their cars or on cots in the garage, because it was too dangerous for them to try and venture home.
Bargfrede says the DOT has plenty of sand and salt on hand for the rest of the winter, despite some delivery delays last week.
