(Ames, IA) -- One person has minor burns after an Ames Fire. Crews were called to 2825 Ontario Street Sunday after 1 p.m., and found smoke coming from the second story of a duplex with occupants standing outside.
Firefighters put out a fire in a second floor bedroom, and confirmed everyone had gotten out safely. The American Red Cross is assisting four individuals who are unable to reoccupy the unit. Although the fire was contained to the bedroom, the entire unit experienced smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Ames Fire Department reminds all residents to check their smoke detectors monthly. This will ensure they are operating correctly and will provide early warning in case of a fire.
