(Andalusia, IL) -- Andalusia residents will decide whether to approve a tax increase to pay for a new fire station during next month's primary election.
Andalusia Fire Chief Justin Hicks tells WQAD News 8 that the department has run out of room in the current facility built in 1974.
Hicks says the department has saved 800-thousand of the two-million dollar cost for the new 13-thousand square foot station.
If voters approve the increase, it would add $112 to the tax bill of a home assessed at $100,000.
The department hopes to begin construction in August.
