(Des Moines, IA) -- Monday morning rain showers did not do much to reduce the fire risk. Thirty-one counties are under burn bans. Most are in the southern half of the state.

The Iowa State Fire Marshal's Office says burn bans are in place for the following counties due to dry conditions:

Adair, Audubon, Butler, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Clarke, Clinton, Dallas, Decatur, Floyd, Greene, Guthrie, Harrison, Jasper, Mahaska, Marion, Marshall, Mills Monroe, Montgomery, Muscatine, Page, Polk, Pottawattamie, Poweshiek, Scott, Tama, Union, Wapello, Warren.

The National Weather Service says Marshalltown and Waterloo received the highest rain totals this (Monday) morning at .14 inches of rain. The NWS says most areas received zero to .10 of an inch of rain. There are more chances for showers later this week.

All of Iowa is either in drought or near drought conditions.
