(Iowa City, IA) -- A section of an Iowa City street will be closed this spring and summer for a major construction project that starts Monday.
The Dubuque Street Reconstruction Project will include reconstruction of Dubuque Street between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street, and the reconstruction of the alley between Dubuque Street and Linn Street.
There will be major public utility upgrades, including a new 12-inch water main, new sanitary sewer and storm sewer system, and new pedestrian, roadway, and festive lighting.
Crews will replace the sidewalk and curb ramps in the project area, and add new streetscape features.
The project will be completed in two phases with the first focusing on Dubuque Street and will continue through mid-summer, with the second phases focusing on work on the sidewalks and alley.
Dubuque Street between Iowa Avenue and Washington Street, as well as the alley between Dubuque Street and Linn Street will be closed to thru vehicle traffic during the project, however, pedestrian access to businesses will be maintained.
Local access to the alley will be maintained as well.
Construction is expected to wrap up by September, 2024.
