Des Moines Police are investigating the city's first traffic-related death of 2024.
The single-vehicle crash happened on the city's South side on Sunday night just before 11.
Police say the preliminary investigation indicates the driver was going at a high-rate of speed when they attempted to make a turn, leaving the road and hitting a utility pole and rolling.
The driver, a 30-year old male from West Des Moines, died from his injuries at a local hospital. The passenger was treated for minor injuries.
