(Rock Island, IL) -- Rock Island families will save money, but the city stands to lose a million dollars in revenue if Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker's plan to remove the 1-percent state grocery tax happens.

Mayor Mike Thoms says that puts the city in a difficult spot.

Thoms tells WQAD News 8 that the city could raise property taxes, or pass their own grocery tax to make up the lost revenue.

Pritzker suggested the removal of the grocery tax during a budget address last month. It is still just a plan. No legislation has been drawn up yet.
