Des Moines Police are investigating the city's first homicide of 2024.
Police responded to a shooting just Southeast of downtown Des Moines after 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, down the street from McKinley Elementary School.
They found two people shot inside an apartment. One of those people has died.
Two other people showed up to local hospitals with gunshot wounds related to this shooting.
DMPD plans to release an update on this shooting later today.

Des Moines Police Department detectives are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2024.
On 02 April 2024, at approximately 11:35 p.m., Des Moines Police Department patrol officers and Des Moines Fire Department rescue personnel responded to 1405 SE 1st Street to investigate a report of a shooting incident.
Officers arrived on scene to find two persons with gunshot injury within an apartment at this address. Officers provided first aid until Des Moines Fire Department medics arrived and transported both injured persons to local hospitals.
One of those persons has died.
At approximately 11:56 p.m., a third person with gunshot injury arrived at a local hospital. This person was transported by private vehicle. Officers were able to determine that this person was injured in the shooting incident on SE 1st Street.
At approximately 12:54 a.m., 03 April 2024, a fourth person with gunshot injury arrived at a local hospital. This person was transported by private vehicle. Officers were able to determine that this person was injured in the shooting incident on SE 1st Street.
All three injured persons remain hospitalized at this time.
There is no indication of ongoing danger to the neighborhood. Des Moines Police Department detectives continue to investigate this incident. Additional information will be shared as it becomes available for release.
