(Iowa) -- The family of a worker killed by inmates at the Anamosa State Penitentiary three years ago is suing the state.

Lorena Shulte's family filed a lawsuit, saying the prison was understaffed and over capacity at the time of her murder. Shulte was a nurse at the prison and was killed in 2021 along with Robert McFarland, another worker at the facility, by two inmates trying to escape.

The lawsuit blames failings from multiple agencies for her death, including the Iowa Department of Corrections.
