(Des Moines, IA) -- The picture's becoming clearer for the risk for tornadoes and hail as part of strong thunderstorms Tuesday, especially in central and southern Iowa.

"We're seeing at least a 10 percent chance for tornadoes," said National Weather Service Meteorologist Ashley Bury. "Mainly along and east of I-35 would be the best area for tornado potential."

The risk is the greatest from mid-morning through early afternoon, bringing potentially "very large" hail.

"At least quarter-size or greater, but we could see even hail size larger than two inches or more, maybe even three inches," said Bury.

The National Weather Service says damaging wind gusts and localized flash flooding are also possibilities.
