Sixty Dogs Taken From Norwalk, Iowa Home

(Norwalk, IA) -- Sixty animals have been removed from a Norwalk home. Animal Rescue League crews and Norwalk Police removed 57-dogs and 3 cats. Crews also found deceased dogs in the home. The ARL says the animals were living in filthy conditions. The animals are now being cared for by the ARL's medical team, for a variety of illnesses and conditions including fleas and skin problems.

The ARL says the floors of the house were covered in trash and feces, and the smell was overwhelming. Some dogs were trapped in kennels while others roamed free.

“We never know when the next call for help is going to come,” said Robyn Dobernecker, ARL Animal Welfare Intervention Coordinator. “And despite our shelter already being full of dogs, the ARL was there for them and is giving them the care they deserve.”

The ARL says man of the animals will require weeks of treatment along with specialized care from the ARL’s behavior professionals.
