(Polk County, IA) -- The Polk County Sheriff's Office has a new tool to help solve human trafficking crimes in the area.

ShadowDragon is an artificial intelligence software aimed to collect data from social media and chat rooms to generate leads, link associations and connect potential suspects to crimes.

The sheriff's Office says the software was purchased using a generous donation from Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R), a nonprofit organization dedicated to combatting child sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The donation to purchase the software was approved March 26, 2024 upon the recommendation from Polk County Sheriff Kevin Schneider.

He says “This is one more advancement in our office to continue our mission of keeping children safe.”

The Sheriff's Office assures private data will not be collected.

You can find more information about O.U.R. on their website.
