(Rock Island, IL) -- A Rock Island mother who hid the body of her 10 year-old son in a trash can for seven months last year will not challenge her sentence.

Sushi Staples is withdrawing her February request to change her guilty plea and have her two-year sentence reconsidered.

Staples pleaded guilty to concealing the December 2022 accidental, self-inflicted shooting death of her son Zion, and lying to police about it when his body was found in her garage last summer.

She's eligible for parole in July.
