Basic Necessities Provided Tornado Victims

The Salvation Army says their teams are set to serve nearly 1,000 meals Thursday.

In the community of Lakeland, near Blair, 200 breakfasts, 350 lunches, and 350 dinners are to be served to those impacted by Friday’s tornadoes.

That will happen at 4861 Lakeland Dr. south of Blair.

Two additional Salvation Army food trucks that have been called in from Hastings and South Sioux City are set to begin arriving Thursday to increase the overall number of canteens available for disaster-relief operations in the Omaha/Council Bluffs Metro area and beyond.

The Disaster Assistance Center in Lakeland will also transition operations starting Thursday afternoon.

All food service will remain at the current DAC location of 4861 Lakeland Dr., but the free-household-goods portion of DAC operations will move across Highway 133 to "Skinny Bones Pumpkin Patch," 3935 Hwy. 133.

They say this will allow more space for receiving, organizing, and giving away free household goods such as cleaning supplies at Skinny Bones, while also freeing up space for expanded food-service operations at the Lakeland Drive location.

The drive-thru Disaster Relief Center in front of "Brite Ideas Decorating," 156th & Blondo, will again be open Thursday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Items like bottled water, nonperishable foods, cleaning supplies, and hygiene kits will be available for free to those affected by the disaster.
