(West Des Moines, IA) -- West Des Moines-based grocer Hy-Vee is offering a number of transitional perks in reaction to backlash over announced store closings in Eastern Iowa.
A free three-day-a-week shuttle to the nearest location; and free delivery within a mile of the shuttered location are some of the steps Hy-Vee is taking to mitigate criticism over the announced closing of three stores in low-income neighborhoods.
The grocer will also partner with local food banks in Davenport, Cedar Rapids, and Waterloo for twice-a-month food pantries at the site of the closed stores.
Hy-Vee also says they won't block other grocers from taking over the former stores.
The three locations will close June 23rd.
