(Des Moines, IA) -- St. George's Greek Orthodox Church hosted its 44th annual Greek Food Fair this weekend, and was met with record-breaking turnout.

"It's amazing turnout, I was amazed to see how many people showed up all three days, and still [are] here," said Diamanto Axiotis, one of the organizers. She says the fair benefits their church, which is also growing.

"The idea is to sell all the food we have prepared, because we don't want to be left, with leftovers." She said it takes months to get ready and plan the festival.

Attendees had a large variety of classic Greek menu items, including gyros and baklava. Organizers say the food fair started as a much small event when it began decades ago.
