(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines Police Department is giving away free gun locks now through Friday.
The locks provided by Project ChildSafe, will be at several locations throughout Polk County for National Gun Storage Check Week.
Gun Storage Check Week is a national campaign of The Firearm Industry Trade Association to encourage all gun owners to check their firearms storage practices, and if necessary, take action to make sure it's secure.
The campaign runs from June 1 through June 7.
The locks can be picked up in the main lobby of the Des Moines Police Department.
