(Anamosa, IA) -- The Illinois man charged with killing a Monticello Fareway worker in a random drive-by shooting in November has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder.

Nathan Russell originally pleaded not guilty in January, claiming he was intoxicated when he drove-by the loading dock of the grocery store and fatally shot Aaron McAtee.

A judge sentenced Russell to life in prison without parole.
