(Chicago, IL) -- John Deere will pay over a million dollars to resolve a hiring discrimination complaint

The U.S. Department of Labor's Chicago office says the agricultural equipment manufacturer discriminated against over 250 Black, and a dozen Hispanic applicants for jobs in Ankeny, Waterloo, and the Quad Cities.

As part of an agreement, Deere will pay 1.1-million dollars in back wages, and offer 53 jobs to eligible affected applicants.

Deere & Company is a federal contractor.

They recently announced the layoff of nearly 700 employees across Iowa this spring.
