Last Wednesday, TheBigShow traveled to Captain Roy’s and talked to Tesdell Century Farm owner, Lee S. Tesdall about the benefits of growing Kernza.
Kernza is a grain crop used as a wheat substitute that has shown to have multiple environmental benefits. Its deep roots help with water infiltration and prevent erosion. Additionally, Kernza can also serve as three crops in one, it can be harvested for grain, straw, and forage.
Grain isn’t the only thing that Kernza can be used for. Kernza is also high in protein and can be made into oatmeal, flour, straw, rice, and beer.
