(Rock Island, IL) -- Rock Island County's State's Attorney says a deadly police shooting in East Moline last month was justified.

Officers responded to reports of a man with a gun at Hometown Harbor apartments on 49th Avenue Court on May 17th.

Police say 80 year-old Eugene Mewes had shot at a maintenance man over work done at his home.

When officers arrived, Mewes refused to drop the weapon.

The State's Attorney says the use of deadly force was necessary for officers to protect themselves.
