(Atkins, IA) -- The project to build a new fire house in Atkins is on hold after failing to pass during a board meeting Tuesday.
The previous fire house was destroyed during the 2020 derecho. The board approved the $5 million dollar design in May, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency set to provide $700,000 to the total cost. The resolution to add an additional $40,000 to the project before submitting a bid failed during the city's board meeting Tuesday night.
For the project to continue, all designs would have to be approved by the board.
