(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- An eastern Iowa contractor who scammed victims of the 2020 Derecho is going to prison.

Forty-eight year-old Scott Adkins of Cedar Rapids will spend four years in jail and must pay restitution to his victims after pleading guilty to one count of wire fraud.

Adkins admitted that the home improvement business he organized two months after the Derecho was a scheme.

Prosecutors say Adkins stole more than 190-thousand dollars of home repair deposits from 22 victims in a little over a year.
