(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- Despite some pushback, the Cedar Rapids Community School District voted to approve the sale of both Arthur, and Garfield Elementary schools last night.
An arts academy will take over Arthur, and a developer will convert Garfield to apartments, with both giving back to the school district.
Eastern Iowa Arts Academy is offering ten years of classes to the District. Trades students from District schools will receive hands-on experience helping on the Garfield conversion to apartments.
Board President Cindy Garlock tells Iowa's News Now the District followed all legal and regulatory requirements for the sale.
