Omaha's Water And Gas Utility Monitors Missouri River Flooding

(Omaha, NE) -- Metropolitan Utilities District managers say three water production plants and natural gas facilities continue to operate normally and have not been affected by flooding in the Omaha metro area.

The utility says two of the water production plants are served by the Platte River.

The Florence Water Production Facility, served by the nearby Missouri River, which is running high, is at a high elevation and continues to operate normally.

M-U-D says customers may notice a change in taste or odor as the flood threat continues, as water quality chemists perform over one-thousand tests per day to ensure standards are being met or exceeded.

Although no flooding of facilities is anticipated, the district says it may have employees install sandbags around pump station equipment, if necessary.

Customers who plan to evacuate their homes or businesses due to the flooding should turn off all gas appliances and the water service as if leaving for an extended period of time.

Customers who want the District to shut off the gas to their home or business, should call 402.554.6666 to make an appointment.

To turn off your water service, turn the shut-off valve by the water meter clockwise (go counter-clockwise to turn back on).

After any flooding subsides and customers return, M.U.D. will turn on the gas at no charge. Call 402-554-6666 to make an appointment.

To report a gas leak, leave the building or area and then call 402-554-7777 or 911.
