A Des Moines Police officer and his K-9 partner are recovering after a crash in the East Village.

It happened just after 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, when Police say the driver of a pickup truck crossed into the oncoming lane on SE 6th street, crashing into the Patrol car and a parked car before coming to a stop.

The 49-year old officer and 23-year veteran of the force was trapped in his car, leading Des Moines Fire Department firefighters to mechanically extricate the officer from the car. He was then taken to the hospital in serious/stable condition. The K-9, an eight-year veteran of the Des Moines Police Department, was treated and released from an emergency vet.

The driver of the pick-up truck is in the hospital in stable condition.

Des Moines Police continue to investigate this crash.
