(Dubuque, IA) -- The Dubuque Police Department is warning about a new scam threatening residents with jail time.

They say the scammers are calling residents claiming to be from the Sheriff's Office or the Dubuque Police Department and telling them they have a warrent out for their arrest and must make a payment immediately.

Dubuque police say they are NOT calling residents to inform them they have a warrant and would not ask for payment over the phone.

They say if you do receive one of these calls, do not provide any personal information.

If you have questions about this scam or others you can contact Lieutenant Luke Bock at (563) 589-4473 or lbock@cityofdubuque.org
