(Davenport, IA) -- The National Weather Service says the Mississippi River is not a place swimmers or boaters wanna be right now.

Matt Wilson, hydrologist with the National Weather Service says, "for the near future, we definitely want to avoid recreational traffic on there. It's just not safe."

The Mississippi River remains at a crest of just over 20-feet at Lock and Dam 15, and will stay there until the end of the week.

It could be another 10 days before the river drops below major flood stage.
