NWS Confirms EF-1 Tornado Touched Down In The Des Moines Metro

(Des Moines, IA) -- The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 passed through the Des Moines Metro during Monday night's severe weather.

The peak winds with this storm were greater than 100 miles an hour, and was on the ground for about seven miles as it traveled through the area.

The storm brought some tree limbs and power lines down across central Iowa, but no injuries or fatalities have been reported.

The tornado is now confirmed to be a part of the derecho that traveled from Des Moines into several other states east of Iowa.
