(Jasper County, IA) -- Jasper County Emergency Management Agency has announced changes to emergency siren protocols.

The changes are effective July 21, to align with Wireless Emergency Alerts from the National Weather Service. The goal is to improve the accuracy and timeliness of severe weather notifications in Jasper County. The director emphasized that sirens are for outdoor notification only and residents should seek shelter immediately when they sound. Sirens will be activated for tornadoes, large hail, high winds, and responder/spotter requests.

Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new protocol and stay vigilant during severe weather.
