Des Moines Police Officer Shot

(Des Moines, IA) -- Updated Des Moines Police Officer has been shot after a chase ended on Army Post Road, on the city’s south side.

A post on the @DMPolice X account Tuesday just after 4:00 a.m. reported the shooting, saying the officer was taken to a local hospital.

Officers were responding to a domestic call on SE 35th Circle near the southeast end of Easter Lake when the suspect fled.

A brief chase ended on Army Post Road near Highway 65, when he lost control. After the suspect’s car crashed, police say he raised a gun at officers.

An officer on dispatch audio reported an officer was shot in the chest and bleeding, and called for an ambulance.

Police Sergeant Paul Parizek confirms the officer is in critical condition. Parizek says he is a 37-year old with four years of service as a Des Moines Police Officer.

The suspect is dead, Parizek confirms. The domestic violence victim was not hurt.
