One Person Is Recovering After An Explosion In North Liberty

(North Liberty, IA) -- A person hurt in an explosion in North Liberty Monday night is expected to recover

The North Liberty Fire Department responded to a report of a building explosion at around 11:00 p.m. Monday, July 29 at 390 Herky Street.

According to a news release from the city, upon arrival crews found the sprinkler system activated, smoke, and multiple overhead doors hanging off the building.

Nick Bergus with the city of North Liberty says there is some obvious structural damage including the roof being separated from the building and some doors blown off.

He says there were multiple businesses in the building near the industrial part of the city.

The State Fire Marshal says the one victim was taken to the University of Iowa hospitals and clinics with minor burns.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
