(Des Moines, IA) -- A Des Moines man is in custody charged with the city's seventh homicide this year.

At around 3:37 a.m. on July 27, police were called to the intersection of Cambridge Street and Ovid Avenue for reports of a shooting and found 42-year-old Nikki Marie Loffredo suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her leg.

She was taken to UnityPoint Methodist Medical Center where she died from her injuries the evening of August 2.

Video evidence show 43-year-old James Bernard Johnson driving up and stopping next to Loffredo who was walking along Cambridge Street before speeding away in his car.

Police say Loffredo was shot at least three times.

Johnson was taken into custody August 2 and is being held in the Polk County Jail, charged with First Degree Murder and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.

Police are continuing to investigate.
