Iowa Man Who Killed Woman While Texting And Driving Gets Suspended Sentence

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- The man convicted of killing a 30 year-old woman while texting and driving won't be spending any time in prison.

Twenty-five year-old Drake Brezina is receiving a suspended sentence of 15-years after an emotional day in Linn County court.

Brezina apologized to the court, and victim Kristi Pearson's family, but Judi Collora, Pearson's mother, said in her victim impact statement that she couldn't forgive Brezina.

Her daughter was killed after Brezina ran a red light while he was on his phone.

Pearson's partner, Chris Brown, was critically injured in the crash.

Brezina will serve 5 years on probation.
