(Algona, IA) -- A man convicted of a killing a northern Iowa police officer last year is not getting a new trial.

Algona radio station KLGA is reporting attorney's for 44-year-old Kyle Ricke requested a new trial on August 5th, arguing the evidence presented at trial was insufficient.

Ricke will be sentenced tomorrow, August 21 at 9:30 a.m. for 1st-Degree Murder in the shooting death of Algona Officer Kevin Cram in September of 2023.

1st-Degree Murder carries a mandatory life prison sentence.
