Cedar Rapids Schools Votes To Renovate Harrison Elementary

(Cedar Rapids, IA) -- A landmark Cedar Rapids school will be getting a second-life.

The Cedar Rapids Community School District has unanimously approved the renovation of Harrison Elementary.

The board says community feedback was a significant factor in the decision. Over 10-thousand surveys were sent to Cedar Rapids residents.

CRCSD Superintendent Dr. Tawana Grover says over a third of respondents supported renovating rather than demolishing Harrison.

The district says they'll work with the architect to narrow the cost difference between a new building and a renovated Harrison.

The design phase starts this fall with construction to begin in early 2026.
